No cookies. No tracking pixels. No analytics, no advertising, nobody counting you. What this website knows about you is a line in a server log and whatever you write into the form yourself. Here it is in full, with the receipts — the same way we do everything else.
Who is answerable
Controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (Uredba (EU) 2016/679) and of the Croatian act implementing it is the family holding at Smokvica. Its registered name, its numbers and the person who holds it stand on the Legal Notice.
What the server writes down
One line, the way a cellar book takes one line.
Every web server keeps a log, and ours is no exception. When a page is called up it records: the IP address of the device, the date and time, the page requested, the address you came from if there is one, and the browser and operating system reported to it. We read those lines for two reasons only — to keep the site running and to see when something is broken or under attack. We do not join them to a name, and we do not use them to build a profile of anybody.
The site itself sits with Namecheap; the server that delivers it stands in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating and securing this website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
The form
At the foot of the front page there is a form — Article VIII, Leave word. It asks for four things: what you are writing about, your name, your email address, and your message. Nothing else is collected, and nothing is required that we do not need in order to answer you.
What you send goes to our own server and is forwarded from there, as an ordinary email, to the family mailbox. There is no form service, no marketing tool and no third party sitting in the middle. Your address is used to reply to you and for nothing else; you will not be put on a list.
One field in the form is invisible and empty. Robots fill it in, people do not — that is how we tell them apart, and it is the only trick the form plays.
Legal basis: the steps taken at your request before or during a booking (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in answering letters addressed to us (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Letters and telephone
If you write to us by email or call the numbers on this site, your address or number and what you tell us stay in the mailbox or in the phone until the matter is settled and the ordinary retention periods have run out. We use them to answer you. We do not pass them on.
What loads from elsewhere
Two things on these pages are not served by us, and each one means your browser makes a request to somebody else's computer — which necessarily shows them your IP address. They are listed here because you should be able to see them, not because we are proud of them.
The small map showing where Smokvica is comes from Google Maps and is loaded only when you scroll far enough down for it to appear. From that moment Google can see your IP address and the fact that this page was open. Google's own statement: policies.google.com/privacy.
The latest post from our Facebook page is fetched by our server, not by your browser — so Facebook does not learn that you were here from the text.
Legal basis for both: our legitimate interest in a site that finds its way onto a map and shows what the family posted last week (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
How long we keep it
Server log lines are kept for as long as they are useful for operation and security, and no longer. Letters and booking requests stay in the mailbox while the correspondence is alive and afterwards for as long as tax and commercial law require us to keep business correspondence. When neither reason applies any more, it goes.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation you may ask us at any time for:
Write to marin@barbazza.wine. A family that has kept its own paperwork for five hundred years is not going to be difficult about yours.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you may complain to the Croatian supervisory authority: Agencija za zaštitu osobnih podataka (AZOP), Selska cesta 136, 10000 Zagreb, azop@azop.hr, azop.hr.
